Enabling Sustainable Very Low Earth Orbit Operations in Singapore through Modeling and Simulations and Beyond

Dr. Wai Lee CHAN

Senior Lecturer, Singapore University of Technology and Design, Singapore

Biography

Wai Lee Chan is currently a Senior Lecturer in the Engineering Product Development pillar at the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD). He received his degrees of BSE, summa cum laude, MSE, and PHD in 2011, 2012, and 2016, respectively, all from the Department of Aerospace Engineering at the University of Michigan. He returned home to join Nanyang Technological University, Singapore as an assistant professor in 2017 before moving on to SUTD in 2025. His is an advocate of research interdisciplinarity and has led diverse project topics ranging from energy sciences to bio-medical engineering to machine learning and AI to pedagogy. His core research interest is in aerospace flow modelling and simulations, particularly in characterizing and optimizing the performance of electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft and very low Earth orbit satellite, and hence is proud to identify himself as a true blue Aero(+)Space researcher.
